Makeup 101: How to apply face makeup/ My foundation routine

Hey “BD beauties”!

This post is dedicated to all my readers who are in the initial stage of learning makeup. if you have been following my blog for a while now, you know that i have a segment called Makeup 101 which is all about the basics of makeup application and today’s post will e part of it.

When I was a beginner, my most significant flaws were concerning the face makeup and i know that most of will relate to me when I say having a wrong foundation shade was a struggle for you.
This routine has been mine ever since I figured out. Try following the steps I have listed below and trust me you will have a perfect flawless base.

Makeup 101: How to apply face makeup/ My foundation routine

Step 1
Exfoliate your face prior to makeup application. I have had this step with my lip makeup routine as well and it’s a huge step for making your foundation look smooth. Use a gentle exfoliant or just a face brush to do this.

Step 2
Moisturize: removing all the dead skin off, your skin will definitely become vulnerable and prone to damage. Therefore its necessary to replenish and give it the hydration it needs, if you have naturally dry skin, go for a rich moisturizer, and if you have oily skin, go for an oil free or gel based moisturizer.

Step 3
Sun screen: This step is an extension from the previous step where the skin is vulnerable; it needs protection from the sun too.  Even if you foundation has sunscreen, it’s always important to use your own just to give it that extra protection

Step 4
Prime the face: The main reason for using this product is to make the foundation last longer and also provide a smooth canvas for your foundation application. A primer is a product that can minimise pores, smooth out dry surfaces etc.

Step 5
Foundation: I have spoken about foundation HERE. Well basically you need the right type, finish, coverage and shade of foundation in order to be happy about your application. Will definitely speak about this in the upcoming posts.

Step 6
Powder: People sometimes misunderstand the purpose of powders. All powders aren’t the same. There are finishing powders which are used to mattify and set and there foundation powders which are used to mattify and provide coverage. Selecting the right one is important. If your liquid foundation has full coverage, you should go for a finishing powder and if the foundation has minimal coverage and you want full coverage, go for a foundation powder. You could however use a full coverage foundation and a foundation powder but it all boils down to personal preference.

TIPS TO AVOID CAKEY FACE:
  • Always have a spray bottle with water in hand. Whenever you feel like your makeup looks cakey, spray all over your face, this helps a lot to set the powder. I usually do this after i apply the finishing powder, bronzer, blush and highlighter.
  • Use powder only to the areas you need it. If you have oily/ combination skin, mattify where you get oily.

Step 7
Set your makeup
If you can, invest in a valuable setting spray. A setting spray as its name tells, sets the makeup thus making it last longer as well as prevent you from getting oily. If you do not have a setting spray, spray some water, works well to set the makeup.
Hope this post helped you girls
