Review and swatches: Elf all over color stick in Golden peach

If you have been reading my blog for a while now, you would know that I recently hauled a few elf products! If you haven’t read that you can check it HERE. I did review the eye liner and primer already and had not yet reviewed the all over color stick so here is my review on it! J

The all over color stick is known to be an almost universal product by elf. Elf says that you could use both on your lips, cheeks and eyes. The shade i got it in was golden peach which by its looks almost like a light bronzy shade. Initially purchased it to be a highlighter but it quite disappointed me. Read on to know why :)

My experience with the product

On my face

Since my purpose to purchase it was to be used as a highlight on top of my cheek bones, that’s what I tried it as first. It was a complete disappointment! I was expecting it to give a nice glow to the cheek bones but instead I looked like a glitter ball! The glitters in it are just too big to be used on your face! Even as a blush, it wouldn’t work right with the obvious glitters. The shade however, is a lovely apricot shade which is a shade great on Indian and srilankan skin tones!

On my lips

Again a big no! If you’re wondering if it could make a great lipstick, forget it. The formula is extremely drying on the lips and doesn’t make it cute. Again there go the glitters spoiling the product. Although the shade is a lovely one for the lips, the glitters make it funny. However, it would be a good product to use on top of you lipstick and just in the centre of your lips.

On my eyes

This is the only way i could make this product work for me. I used it as a base for my eye shadows, and it keeps them in place really well. It also creates a lovely base making the shadows look alive and bright! You could also use this as a cream shadow and coat some mascara and you will be good to go!

Overall longevity:

I did have it on as a highlighter for an entire day in order to be able to tell you how long it lasted. I would say the colour lasted about a good 5 to 6 hrs after which i certainly did look like a clown because it was just glitter on my cheekbones.

On my lips i couldn’t keep it long because it was drying them so this wouldn’t be something to put on your lips anyway.

On my eyes like i said, it was a great base! It kept the shadows in place for a good 6 hours and didn’t crease.

Packaging:

The product comes in a twist up kind of package which is a good way to be able to use on the eyes especially. The product package is not flimsy what so ever, the cap shuts close firm as well.

Pigmentation:

The amount of pigmentation is just right for a color stick of this sort. It’s not completely opaque but for the $1 it’s perfectly satisfactory.

Scent:

It has a really nice tangerine like scent which is great for fruity scent lovers like me. However if you don’t like it I wouldn’t recommend you buy it as the scent is kid of strong!

What’s great about this product?

• Works well as an eye shadow base
• Good packaging
• Just a dollar

What’s not so great?

• It is not usable all over as it claims
• On lips it’s pretty drying
• It has chunks of glitter making it not works as a cheek highlighter

Overall verdict

If you were intending to purchase it as an eye shadow base or just to use on your eyes i would definitely recommend it but if your purpose is as a highlighter or lipstick, it’s a definite no! Also if you don’t like strong fruity scents, I don’t recommend it.
